Our hens are special! It’s as simple as 1,2,3…
1. Our feed is fully UFAS accredited, selected by nutritionists and comes from local mills.
2. Our girls are vaccinated against common diseases and salmonella tested every 15 weeks.
3. Our girls are all completely free range with access to feed and water all day.
That’s why our eggs are the best!
Journey of the Egg
The lights go on and the birds begin to wake up.
It’s time for their first feed. They can eat up to 6 times a day.
Throughout the day we walk through the birds, check they are all ok and have a little chat to them! The first check is normally done around 7.30am.
Popholes open giving the birds access to the fields.
- 8.30am - 11.00am
The girls make their way to the nesting boxes to lay some delicious eggs.
- 9.00am - 12.00pm
The eggs are collected as they roll from the nest boxes onto a conveyor. Matt and Michelle check the eggs for quality at Woodlands Farm before putting them on the pallets.
Alan collects the eggs in the lorry and brings them back to Birch Farm where they are graded, sometimes straight away, sometimes the next day.
As eggs are graded they are checked as they are loaded onto the grader. They then pass over the candler, are packed into packaging and travel along the conveyor.
(Or whenever it starts getting dark), all the birds are walked back into the shed and the pop holes closed to ensure their safety overnight.
